The Road of the Writers is an itinerary of cultural sites, and also an annual event that is located in Sicily between the provinces of Agrigento and Caltanissetta to celebrate the places where in the last century a number of writers were born and raised, Know how to tell its territory and Sicily.
The Road of the Writers of Sicily is represented by a precise sequence of stages: Pier Maria Rosso of San Secondo in Caltanissetta, Leonardo Sciascia in Racalmuto, Antonio Russello in Favara, Luigi Pirandello in Agrigento, Giuseppe Tomasi of Lampedusa in Palma di Montechiaro and Andrea Camilleri at Porto Empedocle. They represent the stages of a cultural itinerary that you see places as the protagonists of the Road.
The stairs wind up along the Celtanissetta agrigento highway, and the opportunity to doubled the SS 640 agrigento-caltanissetta by ANAS also made this street stretch, at the same time as the end of the job, to be titled ” Road of the Writers “.
Everything is born from an idea of Racalutese Felice Cavallaro, journalist of Corriere della Sera, who wanted this territory to be publicized for the literature he produced.
In 2013 Racalmuto signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the then Minister of Cultural Heritage Massimo Bray and Giovanni Ardizzone, President of the Sicilian Regional Assembly.
In 2015, the Mayor of Agrigento asked ANAS to name the 640 State Road to the Writers. That’s how the street took the name of the Road of the Writers.
Each year, from May to July, the Festival of the Writers’ Street begins. The festival is divided into 6 stages, each of which is dedicated to a writer: Luigi Pirandello in Agrigento, Pier Maria Rosso of San Secondo in Caltanissetta, Andrea Camilleri in Porto Empedocle, Antonio Russello in Favara, Leonardo Sciascia in Racalmuto And Giuseppe Tomasi of Lampedusa in Palma di Montechiaro.
